Accessibility

A website that works for everyone

Finance should be easy to reach, whatever device you use and however you use it. This page explains what we have built in, what we still check, and how to tell us if something gets in your way.

Our aim

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. We test every change with automated checks and by hand with a keyboard, on a large screen and on a phone. The site has not been audited by an independent accessibility specialist yet, so if you find something we have missed, please tell us.

What is built in

  • Keyboard: every link, button and form field can be reached with the Tab key, and the focused item is clearly outlined. A "Skip to content" link is the first thing on every page.
  • Screen readers: pages use real headings, landmarks and labels, photos that carry meaning have a text description, and form messages (for example "Please enter your email") are read out when they appear.
  • Less movement: if your device is set to reduce motion, the site stops its animations. You can also turn on the Reduce motion switch at the bottom of any page, and the moving band of industries on the home page has its own pause button.
  • Phones and zoom: the layout adapts to small screens without sideways scrolling, buttons and links are at least finger-sized, and you can zoom the page to 200% or more.
  • Reading: text and buttons are checked for strong colour contrast, and we write in plain words. Finance terms are explained in our finance glossary.
  • Print: the Finance Finder, the cash-flow planner and the calculators print a clean copy of your result without the menus.

Known limits

  • The spam check on our forms (Cloudflare Turnstile, when it is switched on) is made by Cloudflare. It usually passes without any action, but if it asks you to prove you are human and you cannot, please call us instead.
  • Documents you upload (PDF, JPG or PNG) are passed to our team as they are; we cannot make them accessible for you.
